November 2022 General Meeting Minutes

GKKC General Meeting on 11/28/2022 at Borden Park Community Building, Kingsport, was called to order by Ben Gibbs, President, at 6:35 PM.

Members present were: Rhonda Gibbs, Ben Gibbs, David Richman, Michelle Kruger, Brenda Grable, Pierce Massey, Andrew Moore, DeAnna Moore, Debbie Sullivan, Pam Jones, Carrie Kruska, Pam Miller, Dannie Lee, and Brian King.

Visitors present were: Joy Ellis (brlej2@aol.com)

September 22, 2022, General Meeting minutes were read and approved as presented. There was no October GKKC General Meeting due to a conflict with space rental at the Appalachian Fairgrounds.

Treasurer’s report was accepted as presented.

GKKC Committee Show Chairman, Pam Jones, discussed trophy donations of the upcoming May show due by December 1st. The Eye Clinic led by Dr. Hendrix may be available at the May Show. There was a discussion regarding the need for Show Committee members and a Vendor Chair is needed for the upcoming May show.

A request was made by, Pam Miller, representative of the SMASC (Smokey Mountain Australian Shepherd Club) to use the GKKC mats at the upcoming SMASC May and October shows. Pam Jones made the 1st motion and the 2nd  motion by Pierce Massey.

GKKC Discussion of the meeting space for January and February. Gray Ruritan Community Chest is an option for the GKKC Meetings. The Appalachian Fairgrounds is $240(contract)/per year for the meeting space. GKKC would donate to the Gray Community Chest for use of the building per Rhonda Gibbs.

Discussion of social media to market GKKC targeting particular audiences. A Private Group with Public visibility. Dannie Lee volunteered to spearhead the Private Facebook Page. Please note the newsletter, “Dog’s Ear” is no longer being produced.

Debbie Sullivan makes a motion for the 2024 Junior Show to offer free entries for Junior AKC Handlers. The motion was seconded by Michelle Kruger. The GKKC voted unanimously to approve the motion. Currently, fourteen (14) Junior handlers are entered in Junior Conformation. Pam Jones will check on the 2023 Premium for a possible update. Pam Miller suggests forming a Junior Committee for further discussion.
